I was born in 1951 in Torquay, Devon, England. I have always had a love for nature, and from an early age I demonstrated an ability to draw animals and birds found in the surrounding countryside.
Whilst attending high school I knew that I wanted to become a professional artist but was encouraged to take a "proper job" and so pursued a career in engineering. My love of animals and art did not diminish however and I continued to draw and paint in my spare time.
In 1971 I emigrated to Australia where I was immediately awestruck at the range of unique and diverse flora and fauna to be found on this continent. Since that time I have drawn Australian wildlife almost exclusively. However, with a growing number of requests, I now produce graphite drawings of other animals including family pets such as dogs and cats, and animals from all over the world.
I work from my Studio, where I live with my wife, on our 100-acre bush property in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia. My work is part of collections both in Australia and overseas and I am currently working on a book chronicling those animals that come into care (from the pouches of their dead Mothers killed by road trauma or shooting).
Support for Conservation:
I am the Honorary Chairman of the Southern Tablelands branch of WIRES (New South Wales Wildlife Information and Rescue Service Inc) and am actively involved in the rescue, rehabilitation and release of many native animals, birds and reptiles. I am deeply concerned with the exploitation of native wildlife such as the Grey and the Red Kangaroo, which are slaughtered in their millions each year for the meat and leather industries. I am an active member of the Wildlife Protection Association of Australia Inc.
Our 100-acre wildlife refuge "Kanganga" is located close to a National Park, and many young marsupials such as Eastern Grey Kangaroos and Wombats have been successfully rescued, rehabilitated and released here.
My vision is one in which my art can inspire others to consider the uniqueness of Australian fauna, and indeed all animals, in such a way that the true value of their existence can be fully appreciated.
I hope you enjoy your visit and please don't hesitate to contact me regarding a commission or a drawing of a particular animal you would like to see.
